When the School Day Ends, the Saga Continues
A Járnheim residential takes the experience beyond a traditional school visit, giving pupils the opportunity to spend longer immersed in the world they have been exploring throughout the day.
As daylight fades, the encampment changes. Pupils remain at Járnheim for an evening of food, firelight, storytelling and shared experiences, discovering what life may have felt like when the day’s work was finished and a community gathered together around the fire.
Rather than leaving the Viking Age behind at the end of the school day, pupils spend the night within the woodland encampment. Accommodation is arranged separately for boys and girls, with the same 1:10 staffing ratio maintained throughout the residential.
The following morning, pupils wake at Járnheim and begin another day in the encampment. Breakfast and morning activities continue the experience before the group finally leaves the woodland and returns to the modern world.
Residential visits combine history, practical learning and the excitement of an overnight school trip, creating an experience pupils can participate in rather than simply observe.
SMALL GROUPS
School visits operate with a 1:10 staffing ratio, helping groups remain supported and engaged throughout their time at Járnheim.
SAFEGUARDING
Járnheim operates with established safeguarding procedures, with DBS-checked staff working with school groups. Risk assessments and supporting documentation are provided to schools when planning their visit.
ACCESSIBLE
Járnheim is designed to be accessible, with routes through the woodland encampment suitable for visitors with mobility requirements. Specific accessibility needs can be discussed with us before visiting.
RESIDENTIALS
Overnight visits maintain the same 1:10 staffing ratio, with separate accommodation for boys and girls and clear arrangements provided to schools ahead of their stay.
