Járnheim is an immersive Viking living-history encampment set within private woodland in Lancashire. Rather than simply observing history, visitors step inside the encampment and experience a world inspired by life during the Viking Age through food, craft, storytelling, activities and life around the fire.

Járnheim is located within private woodland in the Fylde countryside, near Blackpool, Lancashire. The exact location is not publicly advertised. Guests receive full directions and arrival information before their visit.
Can I visit Járnheim without booking?
No. Járnheim is situated on private land and is not open for general walk-in visits. Access is through booked experiences, events, school visits, residentials and other pre-arranged activities.
What happens during a Járnheim experience?
Every experience is different, but a visit to Járnheim may include historical crafts, cooking, storytelling, archery, axe throwing, communal feasting and time gathered around the fire. Full details of what is included are provided on each individual experience or event page.
Do I need to wear Viking clothing?
No. You don’t need your own Viking clothing or costume to visit Járnheim. We’ll provide information before your visit explaining what to wear and anything you’ll need to bring for your particular experience.
What should I wear?
Járnheim is an outdoor woodland experience, so sturdy footwear and clothing appropriate for the weather are recommended. Specific information will be provided before your visit depending on the experience you’ve booked.
What happens if it rains?
Járnheim is an outdoor experience and normal British weather is part of life in the encampment. Experiences will generally continue in rain and typical seasonal conditions. If severe weather or other conditions mean an experience cannot operate safely, affected guests will be contacted.
Is Járnheim accessible?
Yes. Járnheim is designed to be accessible, with routes through the woodland encampment suitable for visitors with mobility requirements. If you have specific accessibility requirements, please contact us before your visit so we can discuss how best to support you. If severe weather or other conditions mean an experience cannot operate safely, affected guests will be contacted.
Are children welcome?
Yes. Children are welcome at appropriate Járnheim experiences and events. Some experiences may have minimum age requirements due to the activities involved, so please check the information provided for the individual event before booking.
Are dogs allowed?
No. Dogs are not permitted within the Járnheim encampment due to the nature of the site, the activities taking place and animals that may be present within the camp.
Do you offer school visits?
Yes. Járnheim offers immersive educational experiences for schools, bringing history out of the classroom and into a living Viking encampment. Both day visits and residential experiences are available, with school visits operating to a 1:10 staffing ratio. Further information is available on our Schools & Residentials page.
Can school groups stay overnight?
Yes. Járnheim offers residential experiences that allow pupils to continue their visit beyond the school day and spend the night within the encampment. Accommodation is arranged separately for boys and girls, with the 1:10 staffing ratio maintained throughout the residential. Full information regarding the stay is provided to schools during the enquiry and booking process.
Can I book Járnheim for a private group?
Yes. Private group experiences can be arranged subject to availability. If you’re interested in bringing a private group to Járnheim, contact us with your group size and what you’re looking for and we’ll discuss the available options.
Can I take photographs?
Yes. Personal photography is welcome during most Járnheim experiences. Commercial photography, professional filming or organised media activity must be arranged with us in advance.
How do I book?
Available public experiences and events can be booked through the Járnheim website. School visits, residentials and private group experiences can be arranged by contacting us directly through the Contact page.
When will I receive the exact location?
Full directions and arrival information are sent to booked guests before their visit. Járnheim is located on private woodland and the exact location is deliberately not published online.
